Senior Andrew Thomas wins Congress-Bundestag fellowship to work, study in Germany for a year

April 16, 2013

Andrew Thomas, a University of Richmond senior from Lancaster, Pa., has received a Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals fellowship for 2013-14.

Thomas, a German and international business major, was one of 75 Americans chosen for the fellowship, and he will receive funding to work and study in Germany for a year. Thomas will live with a host family, take a two-month intensive German language class, attend a German university or professional school for four months and do a five-month internship with a German company. He previously studied abroad at the University of Munster in spring 2012.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program was founded in 1983 by the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag to expand relations between the two countries through three exchange programs. The Young Professionals program swaps 75 American and German graduates who intend to work in business, engineering, agricultural, technical or vocational fields. More than 1,650 Americans have participated in the program’s 30-year history.
