Office of the Chaplaincy, Music Department plan Candlelight Services of Lessons and Carols Dec. 8

November 13, 2013

The University of Richmond’s Office of the Chaplaincy, in partnership with the Department of Music, will hold the 40th annual Candlelight Services of Lessons and Carols Dec. 8, at 5 and 8 p.m. in Cannon Memorial Chapel.

Two university choirs, Schola Cantorum and Women’s Chorale, will present new and familiar Christmas carols and anthems in the tradition of the annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, first held at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England, on Christmas Eve 1918. Pre-service music will be provided by City Singers Children's Choirs led by Leslie Dripps.

The Rev. Dr. Craig Kocher, university chaplain, will preside over the services, which will conclude with the lighting of candles by the congregation and the singing of Silent Night.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Office of the Chaplaincy at 804-289-8500.
