Marshall Center Lecture March 21 will explore John Stuart Mill's ideas about socialism

Fred Rosen, professor emeritus of the history of political thought and honorary senior research fellow at the Bentham Project, University College London, will discuss “John Stuart Mill’s Journey to Socialism,” March 21, 4:30 p.m., at University of Richmond’s Jepson Hall, Room 120.

The talk will explore the ideas of the 19th-century British philosopher and economist and whether Mill was a socialist. It is part of the 2013-14 Marshall Center Lecture Series, a program of the John Marshall International Center for the Study of Statesmanship in the Jepson School of Leadership Studies.

Rosen is the author of a recent book on Mill, published by Oxford University Press. He has written numerous books and articles on utilitarianism, early liberal political thought and philosophers such as Jeremy Bentham.
