African Film Weekend Oct. 3-4 will screen new and original films

The 10th African Film Weekend will be held Oct. 3-4 at the University of Richmond, Robins School of Business in the Ukrop Auditorium.

This event screens new and original African films each fall giving faculty, staff, students and the greater Richmond community the opportunity to learn about cultures and issues through the best productions Africa can offer in the realm of filmmaking.

The theme for this year’s film weekend is “The City and the State in Contemporary Africa.” The complete film schedule is available online.

African Film Weekend is part of “Africa Week.” This cultural celebration also includes a lecture, “The Boko Harman Phenomenon: Challenges for the Nigerian State and Society,” by Dr. Tanure Ojaide, Frank Porter Graham Professor, Africana Studies Department, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

The lecture will be held Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m., International Center Commons, University of Richmond.

The lecture and film series are free and open to the public.

The Office of International Education, the Media Resource Center, the International Studies Program and the Department of Modern Literatures and Cultures cosponsor Africa Week and African Film Weekend.
