Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III to speak on post-Ferguson world at University of Richmond March 24

Former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese III will give a public lecture on “The Post-Ferguson World: The Challenges of Police and Community,” March 24, at 4:30 p.m. at the University of Richmond, Jepson Alumni Center.

“It is time to ask what has gone wrong and what can be done to restore confidence in our public safety agencies and the justice system more generally,” Meese said. “It is a restoration in which everyone has an interest.”

Meese is the 2014-15 leader-in-residence at the University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies. He is the co-author of the second edition of “Leadership, Ethics, and Policing: Challenges for the 21st Century.

As attorney general, Meese directed the Department of Justice and was the nation’s chief law enforcement officer under President Ronald Reagan. Prior to that, he was the president’s chief policy advisor and a member of the National Security Council.

The event is free but registration is required. A reception will follow the lecture.
