University of Richmond professor Joe Troncale selected for prestigious fellowship in Russia

Joe Troncale, associate professor of Russian, will travel to St. Petersburg in May for the Fellowships in Russia program. Troncale is one of 11 fellowship recipients from an applicant pool of 170 people from 45 countries.

This program is designed for foreign professionals in the field of arts and culture who are working on creative projects and cultural initiatives that help attract the attention of foreign audiences to Russian history and culture. 

Troncale, who specializes in Russian literature and art, has curated a number of successful exhibitions at University of Richmond Museums. His next exhibition will feature sketches, drawings and paintings by Russian artist Nicholas Roerich. The exhibition will open at UR in the fall of 2016 with pieces on loan from the Roerich Museum in New York.

He is also leading discussions of possible collaboration efforts between University of Richmond museums and the State Russian Museum. 

The two-week fellowship is supported by both the Likhachev Foundation and the Presidential Center of Boris N. Yeltsin, acting with support from the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.
