Major construction will impact the University of Richmond campus beginning May 9. This work is the third and final phase of the reconfiguration of the campus road network called for in the 2011 Campus Master Plan.
Transportation services and parking availability will be impacted by this project. Please refer to the Parking Services and Transportation websites, effective May 1, to view changes that may impact you during construction.
Summer construction will occur in three phases to ensure the campus community experiences as little inconvenience as possible. Detour signs and flag personnel will assist vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
Phase A: May 9-June 2
- Richmond Way between Gateway Road and Tyler Haynes Commons will be closed for roadwork. Parking lots R-13 and R-12 will be closed during this stage. Pedestrian and bike access will be directed to use the various campus pathways surrounding the construction site.
- Gateway Road in front of the Robins School of Business will be closed to create a turnoff for large truck deliveries and the removal of several islands in the roadway.
Phase B: June 6-July 22
This stage will close the intersection between Westhampton Way and Gateway Road from the bridge on Westhampton Way to the Ryland Circle exit onto Gateway Road. During this phase Westhampton Way will be straightened and reconfigured into Gateway Road. This phase will also impact access to and from Richmond Way. Pedestrian and bike access will be directed to use the various campus pathways surrounding the construction site.
Phase C: July 25-August 12
The reconfiguration of the Gateway entrance at Richmond Way and Gateway Road will highlight the completion of the road reconfiguration project. The Boatwright Drive, Westhampton Gate and UR Drive entrances expect to see an increase of traffic during this stage of construction while the Gateway entrance is enhanced.
As with any outdoor project, timelines may be adjusted due to weather conditions. Please observe and follow all road signage.
