UR Information Services nationally recognized for commitment to cyber security, participation in National Security Awareness Month

National Cyber Security Awareness MonthUniversity of Richmond’s Information Services division has been named a Champion of National Cyber Security Awareness Month by the National Cyber Security Alliance.

This award recognizes a commitment to cybersecurity, as well as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure all digital citizens have the resources to protect their personal information and have a safe and secure online experience.

"The Champion program is a vital part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month’s ongoing success, said Michael Kaiser, NCSA’s executive director. “We are thankful to our 2017 Champion organizations for their support and commitment to our shared responsibility of promoting cybersecurity and online safety awareness."

Information Services is hosting themed weeks throughout the month to highlight the importance of cybersecurity and National Security Awareness Month. Themes include:

  • Oct 2-6: What are phishing scams and how to avoid them?
  • Oct 9-13: University of Richmond Information Services policies and guidelines
  • Oct 16-20: Best practices for maintaining secure passwords and protecting data
  • Oct 23-27: Protecting yourself against consumer-related cyber threats

Information will be distributed to the campus community through a variety of communication channels. More information on each week can be found on the Information Services website.
