UR joins national commemoration of MLK's death

April 2, 2018

University of Richmond will join the national commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s death April 4.

Led by the National Civil Rights Museum and Initiatives of Change, institutions across the country will toll their bells 39 times for each year that King lived.

The ringing will begin in Memphis where King was assassinated. Librarian and head of the Parsons Music Library, Linda Fairtile, will ring the Boatwright Memorial Library bells at 7:05 p.m.

Organizers are inviting everyone to join in reflecting on the challenges King faced and opportunities to become a more inclusive nation.
