Richmond School of Law Celebrates Carrico Center 10th Anniversary with Exhibition at UR Downtown

October 2, 2018

The Wilton Companies Gallery at University of Richmond Downtown will unveil its new public exhibition, Justice in the River City, October 5 during RVA First Fridays. The exhibition celebrates and showcases the 10-year history of the Harry L. Carrico Center for Pro Bono & Public Service.

Launched in 2008 by University of Richmond School of Law, the Carrico Center for Pro Bono & Public Service connects the skills and talents of Richmond Law students with the greater Richmond community and a network of regional, national, and international programs.

“Our ultimate goal is for our students to be good civic stewards, and to do that, we have to be connected with the community,” said Tara Casey, founding director of the Carrico Center. “This exhibition is a way to celebrate all that we’ve accomplished in our first 10 years.”

Each year, Richmond Law students give approximately 13,000 hours of pro bono service to the community. In 2009, the Carrico Center launched a certification program, and since that time has awarded 237 Pro Bono Certificates to students who have completed 120 or more hours of service.

The exhibition will include interactive stations where visitors can learn about the impact of the Carrico Center through a timeline, map, photos and quotes.

The exhibition will run at University of Richmond Downtown until January 3, 2019.
