University of Richmond Downtown Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Special "Who is Downtown?" Exhibition Opens This Friday
December 2, 2019

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — University of Richmond Downtown, located at 626 East Broad Street, is celebrating a decade of civic engagement and community partnerships.

In honor of the anniversary the special exhibition “Who is Downtown?” opens this Friday Dec. 6, 5-7 p.m. during RVA First Fridays.

“Who is Downtown?” will highlight portraits of individuals in the Richmond community and their stories. Portraits were hand-crafted by the individuals themselves during earlier workshops led by Richmond artist Jonathan Lee. Sketches and notes in books created by University of Richmond’s Book Arts Studio will also be featured, as well as installations by UR seniors Ayele d’Almeida and Joanna Hejl.

“We wanted to acknowledge the communities that have driven the goals and purpose of UR Downtown for the last 10 years,” said Alexandra Byrum, assistant director for communications and UR Downtown, Bonner Center for Civic Engagement. “All backgrounds, identities, and experiences are celebrated in this exhibition.”

There will be a special performance by Versace Umbrella co-hosted with WDCE, University of Richmond’s radio station, at 5:30 p.m. Richmond on Broad Café will be open and serving dinner specials until 7:30 p.m.

This exhibition will be on display through Friday, March 13, 2020.

Since opening its doors in 2009, University of Richmond Downtown has provided students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members a shared learning environment and platform for engaging together.
