UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Two University of Richmond students have received Gilman scholarships to support their study abroad experiences this semester.

Jajsani Roane, a junior from Richmond, Virginia, is spending this semester studying abroad in Denmark. Roane is majoring in environmental studies and art.

Roane is studying abroad in Copenhagen through the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. She hopes to deepen her knowledge about climate change and environmental sustainability. She plans to travel to Odsherred and Reykjavik to examine how ice caps and glaciers in the Arctic have changed over time.

Peter Braun, a junior from Falls Church, Virginia, is studying abroad in Ecuador. Braun is majoring in environmental studies and geography.

Braun is studying Ecuador’s rich biodiversity through the Universidad San Francisco de Quito Galápagos Semester Program. He will visit the Tiputini Research Station in the Amazon rainforest and live on San Cristobal Island in the Galápagos. As a Bonner Scholar, Braun says he hopes to continue the extensive service he does at UR in the Galápagos by working for an ecological restoration and conservation organization.

More than 65% of University of Richmond students complete a study abroad experience before graduating.

University of Richmond has had 35 Gilman Scholars since the program started in 2001.
