UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND ─ The Legal Business Design Hub in the University of Richmond School of Law has been named the winner in the “Learning” category of the Fast Company 2022 Innovation by Design Awards. The program is in good company among honorees from leading businesses, including Nike, Verizon, and Microsoft.

The Legal Business Design Hub, which launched in 2020, is an academic and co-curricular program focused on creating innovative business models that improve the reach and effectiveness of legal services.

Josh Kubicki headshot“Being recognized in the greater innovation and design communities by winning one of the most sought-after awards in these disciplines is such an honor as it recognizes our commitment to creating legal businesses capable of solving crucial problems today and anticipating pressing issues in the future,” said Josh Kubicki, who oversees this program as director of the legal innovation and entrepreneurship program. “This achievement recognizes our vision to create a generation of lawyers who possess not just a legal mind, but also an entrepreneur’s mind.”

“Lawyers who apply business design significantly strengthen their ability to differentiate, deliver meaningful client experiences, operate efficiently, and create a more productive and healthy culture,” Kubicki said.

The competition, now in its 11th year, features judges from a variety of disciplines and business leaders from top companies around the world. Entries are judged on the key ingredients of innovation, including functionality, originality, cultural impact, and business impact. Award winners are featured in the October print issue of Fast Company, on newsstands today.
