Regional Ethics Bowl will be held at University of Richmond to test undergraduate reasoning in practical and professional ethics
November 17, 2009
The Ethics Bowl, a national team competition testing undergraduate reasoning in practical and professional ethics, will hold its Mid-Atlantic Regional competition at University of Richmond Nov. 21.
In one of 10 regional bowls, 14 schools from Maryland, North Carolina Florida, West Virginia and Virginia will compete for a spot at the 16th Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl National Championship in March. The finals are part of the annual meeting of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.
Teams respond to ethically based questions covering such topics as classroom cheating, dating and gun control. Judges evaluate the responses on several criteria, including intelligibility and deliberative thoughtfulness.
Hosted by Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies, the event’s semi-final rounds will begin at 3 p.m. in Jepson Hall, Rooms 118 and 120. The final round starts at 4:30 p.m. in Room 118. Richmond’s own team will compete in a different region to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information call (804)-287-1960 or go to http://jepson.richmond.edu/programs/ethics/bowl_2009.html.
