$825,000 gift to UR Downtown will fund new sign and endow variety of programs
UR Downtown, the site of several community-based programs of the University of Richmond and the Richmond on Broad café, will become more visible to pedestrians and drivers when a new sign is installed Jan. 23 on the building at 626 E. Broad St. The sign and an endowment for additional programming at UR Downtown are being funded by a gift of $825,000 from Rob Blandford and his wife, Nancy Everett.

Robins School, Virginia CEO Council survey finds economic uncertainty, slow growth, staffing issues
The fourth quarter CEO Economic Outlook survey produced by University of Richmond’s Robins School of Business and the Virginia Council of CEOs finds the overall outlook index of top executives has dropped compared to the previous quarter.

Andrew Mellon Foundation awards three-year, $750,000 grant to DSL to create digital atlas of U.S. history
The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded University of Richmond’s Digital Scholarship Lab (DSL) a three-year, $750,000 grant to begin developing a digital atlas of American history.
Campus neighbors, parents now can receive URAlert messages through Twitter texts to cell phones
Neighbors of University of Richmond now have access to emergency alert messages sent by the university’s emergency notification system.

David Weinberger, an authority on the Internet and society, will give the 2013 Peple Lecture Feb. 17, 2 p.m., at the University of Richmond’s Jepson Alumni Center. He talk will focus on his latest book, “Too Big to Know: Rethinking Knowledge Now That Facts Aren’t Facts, Experts are Everywhere, and the Smartest Person in the Room is the Room.”

Beckman Foundation awards third consecutive student research grant to University of Richmond
The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation has awarded University of Richmond a three-year, $77,200 Beckman Scholars grant for faculty-mentored student research. It is the third consecutive Beckman Scholars award to the university since 2006.
