Students plan gala to benefit Dominican Republic water purification project
University of Richmond students are hosting a fundraising gala March 25 at the Science Museum of Virginia to raise $25,000 for a water purification system in a Dominican Republic village.

Jeffress Memorial Trust makes $10,000 grant to chemistry professor Kristine Nolin
Kristine Nolin, assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Richmond, has received a continuation grant from the Thomas F. Jeffress and Kate Miller Jeffress Memorial Trust of Richmond to supplement her initial grant for research on the synthesis of organic materials.

Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki will speak at “Japan’s Earthquake: A Year in Review,” a March 13 memorial to victims of the 2011 disaster and academic forum on the progress of rebuilding to be held at the University of Richmond.

University of Richmond has been awarded a four-star rating from the Campus Climate Index, a division of Campus Pride, a nonprofit organization promoting LGBT-friendly learning environments at colleges and universities.

Ensemble-in-residence eighth blackbird wins second Grammy Award
The University of Richmond’s ensemble-in-residence, eighth blackbird, captured its second Grammy Award Feb. 12. The group won in the category Best Small Ensemble Performance for a recording of Steven Mackey’s “Lonely Motels – Music from Slide.”
Sophomore wins $10,000 scholarship for blog about travels through United States and three countries
University of Richmond sophomore John McAuliff of Irvington, N.Y., has won the 2011 College Blogging Scholarship, a $10,000 prize awarded by CollegeScholarships.org to the best college blog of the year.
