MLA degree moves to SCS
Moving the Master of Liberal Arts program from the School of Arts and Sciences to the School of Continuing Studies is the focus of a RichmondNow article titled MLA Degree Moves to SCS. The article highlights the continuity of the program, reassuring current students that they will be able to continue and complete their program of study while focusing on changes to the curriculum intended to expand course offerings and engage faculty from throughout the university.
"New seminar courses and summer classes are highlights of the newly revised program, said Patricia Brown, senior associate dean of academic programs for SCS. As before, the MLA degree program is geared toward part-time students. Most courses will be taught in the late afternoon or evening to better accommodate students who also work.
"'We are committed to helping students in the pipeline,' said Brown. Current MLA students received letters in January advising them of the change and their options to continue under the new or old program."
The article appeared in the April 2009 edition of RichmondNow, the official faculty, staff and student newspaper of the university. The revamped Master of Liberal Arts will admit new students beginning Fall 2009.
