Landscape Design program to offer classes and workshops that focus on "green" subjects
The School of Continuing Studies Landscape Design Professional Certificate program (LDPC) is adding several classes focusing on "green" subjects.
Greg Allen, LDPC instructor, has revised the curriculum of the "Introduction to Design" course to include discussions on rain gardens, native plants and restoration landscaping. "Introduction to Design" is one of the first required courses of the Landscape Design Core.
Workshops to be offered this year covering green subjects include Sustainability and Native Plants, Organic Gardening Basics, Urban Soils, Planting a Tree for Longevity and Ornamental Grasses.
The Landscape Design program requires four course types: Entry-level, Woody Plants Core, Landscape Design Core and Electives. In addition to earning the Certificate, students who complete the Certificate requirements earn transcripted Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
For those with a bachelor's degree, the Certificate is also suitable preparation for an advanced degree in landscape architecture, offered through a partnership with Virginia Tech.
