Margaret Dorsey, associate professor of anthropology, has extensively studied border security in the U.S. She is the author of Pachangas: Borderlands Music, U.S. Politics, and Transnational Marketing which explores the growing convergence of transnational marketing and politics in the borderlands of Texas, by observing "pachangas," a type of political barbeque where politicians connect with voters.

She has interviewed politicians, promoters, artists, and locals to better understand how political candidates and corporations market their products to Hispanic voters.
