Search committee for Osher Institute director

Written by Ann Williams

Osher members sadly received the news that Jane Dowrick, Director of the Osher Institute at the University of Richmond, has announced her retirement at the end of March 2014. The growth and development of the program since Jane’s arrival has been terrific. From just a handful of offerings and a few members to the nearly 600 current members and an array of courses in which members find it hard to “choose just a few,” the Osher Institute has become a well-known and well-loved program.

With Jane’s impending departure, the School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) has the difficult task of finding a new leader to direct the program. Accordingly, it has established a search committee to help identify the next Director of the Osher Institute.

Members of the Search Committee are:

  • Patricia Brown, Chair of the Search Committee and Senior Associate Dean of SPCS
  • Carl Booberg, Immediate Past Chair, Osher Leadership Council
  • James Campbell, Director of Marketing, SPCS
  • Christina Contrada, Liberal Arts Coordinator, SPCS
  • Aaron McClung, Director of Planned Giving
  • Ann Williams, Chair, Osher Leadership Council
  • Ned Swartz, Associate Dean for Administration, SPCS (ex officio, non-voting)

The Search Committee held its first meeting on Monday, November 11, and plans to have a new Director on board by early spring 2014.
