The University of Richmond’s Spider Battalion kicked off their spring 2008 field training exercise with an air assault mission from the University of Richmond to Fort Pickett, Va. on Friday, February 29.

The cadets planned and executed the mission with the 224th Aviation (Blackhawk) from Sandston, Va. Three Blackhawk helicopters landed on the University’s intramural fields to pick up cadets for the 20-minute flight to Fort Pickett. The helicopters helped the cadets simulate a drop-off mission, depositing them for a weekend-long training exercise.

Lt. Col. Doug Gillem invited Andrew Newcomb, dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, to ride along.
