"Digital Sociologies" Talk: Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom

Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University, will speak on "Digital Sociologies" at the University of Richmond on March 27 at 4 p.m. Dr. Cottom will discuss institutional and group challenges to open, online and distributed education.  She will address how open access materials are not “free,” in that institutions or funders are providing a subsidy, but they do provide cost savings for students.  Dr. Cottom will also explore the challenges that junior faculty and minority faculty have with producing open access materials and how institutions can support faculty in this arena.
