Education faculty share expertise in media outlets

Faculty in the SPCS Graduate Education program have shared their expertise in a number of media outlets during the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing information about rezoning and racism; advice for teachers, parents, and the public related to online teaching and learning; and school reopening plans.

April 22 — Tom Shields, graduate education program chair, was featured in The Academic Minute’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies week-long takeover in a podcast: Unexpected Benefits of School Rezoning.

June 15 — Jamelle Wilson, dean of the School of Professional & Continuing Studies, penned a Richmond Times-Dispatch opinion column on responding to racial tensions in Richmond and around the nation: Finding Our Way Forward.

July 18 — John McGinty, R'67, G'73, teaching and leadership supervisor in the education program, shared his thoughts on the value of school resource officers (SRO) in a Richmond Times-Dispatch letter to the editor: Presence of SROs a Deterrent to Trouble.

July 22 — Bob Spires, associate professor of education, provided a comparative review of international school re-opening plans in The ConversationHow Other Countries Reopened Schools during the Pandemic – And What the US Can Learn From Them.
