Kennedy George, daughter of Chris George, GC’18, was featured in one of the most iconic images of Richmond’s summer Black Lives Matter protests — the June 5 image of two dancers standing on the graffiti-covered Robert E. Lee monument.

Chris George, who earned a Master of Nonprofit Studies degree through SPCS in 2018, is quoted in a June 19th Richmond Times-Dispatch article commemorating Juneteenth through the story of that image of Kennedy and her dancing partner, Ava Holloway.

Chris said, “I truly believe that this was not coincidental and the world was meant to see our girls. This picture exudes power and strength, and shows how dance brings art to chaos and creates something beautiful and empowering.”

The iconic photo, snapped by Reuters photographer Julia Rendleman, has been shared countless times across social media and news articles.
