3 of 5 2021 Henrico teacher of the year finalists, including winner, were SPCS students or graduates

Three of the five 2021 Henrico County Teachers of the Year finalists were students or graduates of the SPCS Educational Leadership & Policy Studies program.

  • Eric Byers, GC’21, will earn a graduate certificate in educational leadership and policy studies in December. He teaches at Highland Springs High School and represented the Varina District in the contest.
  • Daniel McKinney, GC’21, will earn a graduate certificate in educational leadership and policy studies in December. He teaches at Holman Middle School and represented Henrico’s Three Chopt District in the contest.
  • Matthew Seidita, GC’19, earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies in 2019. He teaches at Wilder Middle School and represented Henrico’s Fairfield District in the contest.

The five finalists for 2021 Teacher of the Year were announced in a social media video on April 30 (see below).

In a ceremony at Highland Springs High School on May 4, Byers was named 2021 Henrico County Teacher of the Year.
