NGLA participants and vision board reflecting leadership values in schools today
NGLA participants created vision boards that reflect significant leadership values in schools today.

The Center for Leadership in Education, under the direction of Dr. Kate Cassada and Dr. Dana Jackson, celebrated the kick-off of its 17th annual Next Generation Leadership Academy (NGLA) at the Jepson Alumni Center on September 29, 2021.

Through a partnership with eight local school divisions, 52 participants from the counties of Amelia, Caroline, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Powhatan and the City of Richmond, enjoyed working together to explore the foundations of educational leadership through an Eyes on Leadership presentation with Dr. Michelle McQueen-Williams. “Joyful, exciting, intellectually stimulating, and fun” are all words participants used to describe their learning experience.

Monthly presentation topics for this year include the following:

  • Exploration of components of leadership responsibilities
  • Cultural and trauma responsiveness
  • Coaching for sustainable growth
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Equity

The synergy in the room was incredible and we know this year will be a great one as NGLA supports leadership development and critical leader connections across divisions this year.
