David Sams, a member of the Institute on Philanthropy (IOP) advisory board, has been named an impact maker among “100 People to Meet in 2022” by Virginia Business magazine. Sams joined the IOP advisory board this year. He also serves as president of the board of directors for the Virginia Association of Fundraising Executives (VAFRE).

Sams is executive director of The Community Tax Law Project (CTLP). CTLP provides free legal help to Virginia’s low wage families and individuals experiencing economic harm because of a tax problem.

Members of the IOP advisory board provide feedback, direction and leadership for the Institute. They serve renewable three-year terms as advisors to help guide the Institute and address the most urgent strategic issue facing IOP each year.

IOP board members are chosen because they are thought leaders in their fields representing a diverse knowledge base. Each brings different expertise to the table. Members are nominated and selected based on this criteria.

The Institute on Philanthropy is a program of the School of Professional & Continuing Studies that strengthens the community by educating nonprofit professionals, volunteers, donors and community leaders in ethical and effective fundraising, marketing and board development strategies.
