Adjunct professor Susan Wilkes wins SPCS Innovations in Teaching award
SPCS Faculty Update
Dr. Susan Wilkes, adjunct assistant professor of human resource management, has received the 2022 SPCS Innovations in Teaching Award.
Established in 2015 and first awarded in 2016, the Innovations in Teaching Award annually recognizes a member of the adjunct faculty for innovations in teaching along 14 dimensions for innovation documented by the 2012-2013 Adjunct Faculty Advisory Council (AFAC).
SPCS students and faculty are invited annually to nominate a member of the adjunct faculty for the Innovations in Teaching Award. Nominations are reviewed by AFAC and a winner selected from among the nominations. Nominations are due December 1 of each calendar year, awarded the following January during the SPCS Spring Faculty Meeting.
Criteria for receiving the award include the following:
- Adjunct faculty member in SPCS
- Exhibits high level of innovation in the classroom
- Generates impact on student learning
- Role model for other faculty
- Exhibits creativity in the classroom
Wilkes was recognized for innovations in her HR Management course, Organizational Psychology. Specifically, she was recognized for “assignments and solo-learning activities that were flexible for working professionals” and for using Zoom effectively, “flawlessly facilitating polls, breakout rooms, and using great visuals throughout the course.”
Wilkes was also recognized for her approach to teaching, for sharing “knowledge with her students in a way that is very enjoyable and participative.” In a closing statement, a nominator wrote, “As online courses continue to gain popularity, SPCS would do well to recognize standouts like Dr. Wilkes.”
Wilkes was recognized for this honor during the Spring 2022 SPCS Faculty Meeting, held remotely via Zoom on January 6, 2022. She receives a plaque (pictured above) and her name is included among past winners on the Innovations in Teaching page.
