International scholars from Europe visit campus in grant-funded faculty exchange

October 18, 2022

Professors Michael Krueger and Pierre Tulowitzki visited Richmond as part of SPCS Associate Dean Tom Shields’ involvement in an International Digital Education Network (IDEN) grant through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The grant allows for faculty mobility exchanges between partner universities.

Krueger is the German Coordinator of the International Education Management (INEMA) Study Program and the Project Manager of the IDEN in the Institute of Educational Leadership at Ludwigsburg University.

Tulowitzki is a Professor and Chair of Educational Management and School Improvement in the Institute for Continuing Education and Counseling, School of Education at FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Northwestern Switzerland.

Tulowitzki served as a visiting international scholar to Richmond in summer 2019. The collaboration on the IDEN grant grew out of Dr. Tulowitzki’s visit and an SPCS Education summer study abroad course, which ran in 2018 and 2019. The course was planned for summer 2020, but was canceled due to COVID.

Tulowitzki and Krueger were on campus and in the Richmond region for four days, Oct. 9-12. In addition to visiting Richmond’s Folk Festival, Binford Middle School and Jefferson’s Monticello, they participated in several campus meetings with Provost Jeff Legro and with Dean Martha Merritt and Associate Dean Ellen Sayles of the Office of International Education. They also attended a luncheon organized in their honor, hosted by SPCS Dean Jamelle Wilson and SPCS faculty.

Tulowitzki also assisted Shields in teaching a Jepson School of Leadership Studies undergraduate class and an SPCS graduate class, Foundations of Educational Leadership, a course in the SPCS Educational Leadership & Policy Studies program.
