Partners in the Arts update: Joan Oates Institute for Integrated Learning

Over the summer and into the current fall semester, Partners in the Arts (PIA) has been utilizing its REB Award funds to pilot the Joan Oates Institute for Integrated Learning (JOIFIL) model of educator and community expert side-by-side training, planning, and in-school implementation.

Training occurred at the JOI 2022 Listening to our Communities event (see accompanying video for more about that). Educators from Richmond City, Hanover County, Chesterfield County, Goochland County and Powhatan County Public Schools worked alongside experts and teaching artists over six days of in-person training sessions, including onsite in the studios of our partner VPM.

Educators also had access to a suite of online asynchronous workshops and resources. Outcomes from the summer coursework and planning with PIA are now being implemented in five schools across the region. For more news about PIA, check out our Instagram feed.
