Center for Leadership in Education update: Next Generation Leadership Academy

November 1, 2022

The Center for Leadership in Education (CLE), in partnership with school divisions of Amelia, Caroline, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, Powhatan Counties, and Richmond Public Schools, kicked off of the 18th Next Generation Leadership Academy (NGLA) this fall with nearly 50 local current and aspiring school leaders.

Founded in 2005 by Dr. Tom Shields, NGLA maintains a mission to provide meaningful professional development for instructional, transformational, and organizational leadership through a combination of speakers, coursework, and practical application over the course of a yearlong exploration of engaging, relevant topics with expert speakers in the field of education and leadership.

In September, NGLA participants enjoyed an insightful and inspiring presentation titled “Leading From the Front” with Dr. Michelle McQueen-Williams of VUU and UR.

In October, Dr. Kim Bridges of VCU led participants in a powerfully reflective and motivating exploration into educational leadership and exemplary practices followed by cross-division teambuilding activities led by Signature Teambuilding.

Other topics to be addressed with NGLA participants during this year will include trauma responsive leadership in schools, coaching and communication to promote change and growth, and supporting high-quality instruction through literacy leadership.

NGLA is coordinated by Dana Jackson. CLE is directed by Kate Cassada.
