Gil Villanueva, assistant vice president and dean of admission at University of Richmond, has been selected for a year-long leadership academy for university administrators conducted jointly by the Council of Independent Colleges and the American Academic Leadership Institute.

Villanueva will complete seminars in Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh, participate in a mentoring program and lead experiential learning projects, readings and case studies.

Villanueva joined Richmond in 2009 after serving as dean of admissions at Brandeis University and an admissions administrator at Bucknell University and Harvey Mudd College. He has served on the College Board's Guidance and Admission Assembly Council, Task Force on Admissions in the 21st Century, and as secretary and current chair of its Southern Regional Council. He also is a member of the Common Application's board of directors.
