University of Richmond Magazine receives prestigious CASE award

June 16, 2015

The University of Richmond’s alumni magazine received one of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s national gold awards in the category of College and University General Interest Magazines as part of its 2015 Circle of Excellence Awards. The magazine was selected from 44 entries in the mid-sized range of 30,000 to 74,999 circulations.

The CASE Circle of Excellence Awards are meant to deliver value to participating institutions by providing a benchmark of excellence. Award submissions were reviewed by a group of judges comprised of editors, designers and art directors. The judges deemed the pool of submissions this year to be “impressive,” and described the winners’ success in combining “visually arresting photography and illustration with creative storytelling and strong writing.”

Of UR specifically, the judges said, “From front to back, the University of Richmond magazine is visually beautiful with exceptional photography. The magazine tells stories in unexpected ways, often through images.” The judges also noted the magazine felt student-focused and had excellent print quality.

“This national recognition proves we are making strides toward giving the Spider community a magazine that reflects and embodies the excellence you find throughout the institution,” said Matthew Dewald, editor. “The success of the magazine depends on contributions by everyone in the university’s Communications Department and from partners in every corner of campus.”
