UR Police Department Earns Accreditation with Excellence Award

August 6, 2015

The University of Richmond Police Department has been selected by the Commissioners of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies to receive the Accreditation with Excellence Award.

In its letter to the University of Richmond Police Department, CALEA wrote, “Your agency has clearly demonstrated a commitment to professionalism, and CALEA Accreditation has undoubtedly become an institutionalized management model for the organization.”

Agencies that earn the Accreditation with Excellence Award have met several criteria. Among them are

  • Excellence in the development and implementation of contemporary policies and procedures.
  • Excellence in the collection, review and analysis of organizational data for the purpose of public safety service improvement.

“This acknowledgement is reflective of the university’s commitment toward public safety for our community,” said David McCoy, URPD police chief. “It also provides a standard in policing that is shared with our regional partners in the City of Richmond and Henrico County, both of which also are CALEA accredited.”

The accreditation is good for three years.
