Summer road construction concludes on campus; renovated residence halls open as students return for 2015-16 academic year

August 13, 2015

UR Drive and Westhampton Way on the River Road side of campus will reopen to all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic Aug. 17.

Parts of theses roads have been closed since mid-May for the realignment of UR Drive making it the primary route through campus. Construction will continue on a new admission and career services building in the area throughout the 2015-16 school year, but it is not expected to impact traffic flow on a daily basis. Periodic delays may occur, and people should use caution in the construction area. Current campus maps are available at www.richmond.edu/visit.

In addition to the road project, Jeter Hall and Thomas Hall will reopen to house about 170 students this fall. These residence halls, both of which are more than 100-year-old buildings and are original to campus, have been undergoing renovations since last summer.

Jeter and Thomas both now offer a variety of room types throughout the building ranging from single rooms to suites that share a bathroom. Both residence halls will house men and women ranging from sophomores to seniors.

Throughout the building, students can enjoy community spaces, including study and sitting areas.

The plants and flowers surrounding these building are all native to Virginia. An accessible path provides easy access to the Commons.

The buildings have brick and limestone exteriors matching the collegiate gothic style of the majority of buildings on campus and are designed to receive a LEED silver certification.

To enhance the safety of students and their valuables on campus, these living spaces as well as seven others on campus (Dennis Hall, Freeman Hall, Gateway Village Apartments, Lakeview Hall, Lora Robins Court, Robins Hall and Westhampton Hall) will all have keyless entry. Locks on rooms in these buildings require students to use their campus ID card and a unique four-digit PIN to gain entry.
