Richmond's Partners in the Arts Program to Host Author of 'Bird Box' Novel; Inspiration to Netflix Post-Apocalyptic Thriller

Later this month, University of Richmond’s Partners in the Arts program will welcome Josh Malerman, The New York Times bestselling author whose novel Bird Box inspired the 2018 Netflix film.
An Evening with Bird Box Author Josh Malerman will be held at The Byrd Theatre, 2908 West Cary Street, on June 27.
The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with UnHappy Hour: It’s a Miserable Time, hosted by the Poe Museum. A screening of Bird Box will follow at 7:30 p.m.
A question and answer session and book signing with Malerman will begin at 9:30 p.m. Copies of Bird Box and other books by Malerman will be available for sale courtesy of Chop Suey Books.
The public can purchase tickets online for $20. Walk-up tickets will be available on June 27 until they are sold out.
The event serves as the conclusion to Partners in the Arts’ workshop Multi-Sensory Storytelling: Creativity Workshop with Bird Box Author Josh Malerman. The four-day workshop held on University of Richmond’s campus will be facilitated by Malerman and local artists and aims to teach writers and educators the art of digital storytelling.
“Workshop participants will work closely alongside Josh Malerman, local visual artists, musicians, and UR education faculty to learn how to use technology and other tools to incorporate sight, sound, and motion in their classroom lessons and story projects,” said Partner in the Arts Director Rob McAdams.
The workshop is part of the Joan Oates Institute for Partners in the Arts, a program at the University of Richmond School of Professional & Continuing Studies that helps educators integrate creative practices and arts education into their curriculum, regardless of subject matter.
