UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND ─ With the closure of the Richmond on Broad Café, an off-campus dining location in downtown Richmond, the University of Richmond had to decide what to do with the equipment, which was not needed at other UR dining locations.

“Since we didn’t have a need for the equipment and tables on campus, we wanted to donate the items that would help a vulnerable community,” said Angela Moseley Scott, purchasing specialist for campus business services.

A group of UR employees identified Childrens Home of Virginia Baptists, which offers before- and after-school programs for school-age children. CHVB, located in South Chesterfield, was established in 1947 to meet the needs of underserved African American children.

UR donated an ice maker, convection oven, work counter with sink, pot washer sink, and several tables and chairs. The items were valued around $17,000.

“Gifts from thoughtful people such as the University of Richmond make what we are doing even better,” said Ricardo Brown, pastor of 5th Baptist Church. “The needs of children and families is our top priority for existence and these donations help us fulfill those needs.”
