16 University of Richmond Students Offered Competitive Gilman Scholarships to Study Abroad in Countries Around the World

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND — Sixteen University of Richmond students, the most at one time in UR’s history, were offered Gilman scholarships to support their study abroad experiences during the 2022–23 academic year. Gilman grants allow students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad.

The latest Gilman scholars include:  

Shelby Campbell, a sophomore from Fredericksburg, Virginia, who received support to study abroad in Spain. Campbell is still determining a major.

Lorena Campos-Castro, a sophomore from Alexandria, Virginia, who received support to study abroad in the Czech Republic. Campos-Castro is still determining a major.

Yuna Chung, a junior from River Edge, New Jersey, who received support to study abroad in Denmark. Chung is double majoring in health studies and biochemistry & molecular biology.

Javier Cruz, a senior from Highland Park, Illinois, who received support to study abroad in Italy. Cruz is a majoring in business administration.

Stephanie Guza, a junior from Stamford, Connecticut, who received support to study abroad in Spain. Guza is majoring in health studies.

Will Johansen, a junior from Madison, New Jersey, who received support to study abroad in Italy. Johansen is double majoring in Italian/international business and business administration.

Nicole Llacza Morazzani, a junior from Lima, Peru, who received support to study abroad in the United Kingdom. Llacza is double majoring in economics and English.

Sofie Martinez, a senior leadership studies major from Centennial, Colorado, who received support to study abroad in the United Kingdom.

Claire McGuire, a junior from Garden City, New York, who received support to study abroad in Spain. McGuire is still determining a major.

Anh Nguyen, a junior who is double majoring in biology and Latin American, Latino, and Iberian studies, from Silver Spring, Maryland, who received support to study abroad in Spain.

Avery Rothstein, a junior psychology major from Chappaqua, New York, who received support to study abroad in Italy.

Ariana Sosa, a junior from Miami, who received support to study abroad in Australia. Sosa is double majoring in biology and health studies.

Julia Stevermer, a junior from Leawood, Kansas, who received support to study abroad in Georgia. Stevermer is double majoring in Russian studies and political science.

Dani Valderrama-Avila, a junior from Falls Church, Virginia, who received support to study abroad in Spain. Valderrama is double majoring in business administration and Latin American, Latino, and Iberian studies/International Business.

Abby Wilhelm, a junior from Henrico, Virginia, who received support to study abroad in Italy. Wilhelm is double majoring in psychology and rhetoric and communication studies.

Bela Yoguez, a junior from Trumbull, Connecticut, who received support to study abroad in the United Kingdom. Yoguez is double majoring in cognitive science and health studies.

Since the program started in 2001, 82 University of Richmond students have been offered Gilman scholarships.
