Teaching Science to Tibetan Monks

Daniel Pierce

Assistant Professor of Biology Daniel Pierce recently traveled with students to India to teach science to Tibetan monks. The experience was part of the EnCompass program through International Education.

Though a new experience for Pierce's students, it was a familiar one for Pierce, who has traveled to India several times as part of a program out of Emory University focused on western science interacting with eastern science and religion.

"These experiences have been highlights in my career so far," Pierce said. "The opportunity to learn about another culture through a shared educational experience was meaningful, and I was delighted to be able to share that with my students too."

More information about this opportunity, including background, is available on Pierce's blog.

Pierce is a molecular biologist who studies tumors in plants.
