Hyman, 59, still owns a Land Rover franchise that he has operated on Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield for years. But the big push these days is his used-car operations.

"The name Hyman Brothers has always been known in Richmond for quality cars," Hyman said.

George Hoffer, an economics professor at the University of Richmond who specializes in the automobile industry and has followed the local auto business for decades, said he is not surprised by Hyman's turnaround.

Hyman is "aggressive in a good way and quick to adapt," Hoffer said.
