Jepson Leadership Forum: Work-life expert Joan Williams to discuss gender bias in the workplace

Joan Williams, an expert on gender and work-family issues, will discuss patterns of gender bias and ways to combat bias in the workplace Feb. 9, 7 p.m., at the University of Richmond’s Jepson Alumni Center.

Her talk, “Wise Women Speak: Powerful Career Tips from Powerful Career Women,” is part of the Jepson Leadership Forum’s 2011-12 season “Game Changers: How Women Lead and Change the World.” The talk is co-sponsored by the School of Law.

Williams is a professor of law at the University of California’s Hasting College of the Law and author of “Reshaping the Work-Family Debate: Why Men and Class Matter” and the award-winning book “Unbending Gender: Why Family and Work Conflict and What To Do About It.”

She is co-founder of the Project for Attorney Retention, a nonprofit initiative that plays a leadership role in helping the legal profession advance and retain women and encourages work-life balance.  She blogs regularly for The Huffington Post.
