Educational leadership graduate takes position as associate principal in Vermont

Lashawn Whitmore-Sells, C‘11, has been offered an interim position as assistant principal in a middle school in Vermont. Whitmore-Sells earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) from the University of Richmond School of Professional and Continuing Studies.

Whitmore-Sells was a member of the first ELPS graduating cohort. Prior to taking the position in Vermont, she worked at Burgundy Farm Country Day School in Alexandria, Va.

She is eager to apply the theory and skills learned in the ELPS program to her new position. “I am very excited and looking forward to actually using the information that I learned in the program.”

The ELPS program is coordinated by Dr. Tom Shields, director of the Center for Leadership in Education. Students holding a master’s degree may earn ar graduate certificate in ELPS; those seeking a graduate degree may earn a master's degree in ELPS.

Both ELPS programs of study prepare graduates to take the School Leadership Licensure Assessment and earn Virginia licensure as a school leader.
