The School of Professional and Continuing Studies is offering a series of events and activities to support and prepare new students for the upcoming fall semester at the University of Richmond. Most events request a reservation—follow the links below for location details and to register online.

SPCS Breakfast Forum: On Wednesday, August 22, newly admitted students are invited to join current students, alumni, faculty and staff for our monthly networking Breakfast Forum. This month’s theme is “Ready, Set, Go: Making the Most of Your Academic Career” and focuses specifically on making the most of one’s return to the classroom. Speakers include a recent graduate (Martha Pittaway, C‘12) and a current student (Michelle Edgell, SGA representative). Breakfast forums last for one hour, 7:30-8:30 a.m., to enable attendees to continue to work.

New Student Orientation: On Thursday, August 23, new admitted students are invited to attend New Student Orientation. The session provides new students a brief overview of the School and University’s resources, introduces students to key administrators and staff, and enables new students to receive their University parking pass, their University One Card identification and their University network ID. Representatives from several key campus offices are available to answer questions. Orientation begins at 5:00 for graduate education students, at 6:00 for all others.

New Student Campus Tour: On Sunday, August 26, new students are invited to join the SGA and other students and staff for a custom walking tour of campus. Classrooms, academic resources and other areas are covered during the tour. The experienced tour leader is a current student, former SGA president and University staff member with a long history of working and studying on the campus. The tour begins at 2:00 p.m. and concludes about two hours later, just in time for the President’s Gathering.

New Student Gathering with President Ayers: Immediately following the New Student Campus Tour, President Ayers is hosting all new University of Richmond students at his annual New Student Gathering. The event starts at 4 p.m. and lasts about 45 minutes, followed by a walk to the President’s Home for a picnic dinner with all new students. The campus tour will conclude at the Robins Center for the event; participants are welcome to join the tour at 2:00 or simply to meet the tour group at 4 p.m. at the Robins Center.

The School invites new students to any and all of these events, and encourages participation in preparation for the upcoming semester.
