Religious studies professor pens op-ed on the role of religion in Middle East unrest

University of Richmond professor Mimi Hanaoka recently penned an op-ed that appeared in the Los Angeles Times on Sept. 13.

Hanaoka, a religious studies professor who teaches Islam and Islamic History, offered her perspective on the recent unrest in the Middle East. She suggests that the protests are not related to religion but instead rooted in the serious domestic political fragmentation in Libya and Egypt and the United States’ role in the region.
