October 29, 2013

Ethan Bernstein, assistant professor of leadership and organizational behavior at Harvard Business School, will receive the 2013 Fredric M. Jablin Doctoral Dissertation Award given by University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies in collaboration with the International Leadership Association (ILA).

Bernstein’s dissertation, titled “Does Privacy Make Groups Productive?” examines how, and under what conditions, privacy makes groups more productive. Bernstein explores how the sharing of information across and within boundaries affects learning, innovation and organizational performance.

Bernstein will receive the award at the 15th Annual ILA Global Conference, Oct. 30-Nov. 2 in Montréal. Faculty from the Jepson School will present on topics such as leaders’ ethical failures, the leadership of Nelson Mandela, whether privacy can make groups more productive and the power of invisible leadership.

The award is given annually to a scholar from any discipline whose doctoral dissertation demonstrates substantial insights and implications for the study of leadership. It was established to honor the life of leadership studies professor Fredric M. Jablin.
