"Terry L. Price, a professor at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond, declined to comment specifically on the Morrissey case.

But Price, who specializes in leadership ethics, moral psychology and responsibility, said via email that 'there is not a lot of evidence to suggest that voters care all that much about ethics, as long as the elected official is seen to be getting the job done.

'This general point is well-supported in the scholarly literature on leadership by thinkers such as Ed Hollander,' he said, referring to an emeritus distinguished professor of psychology at Baruch College, City University of New York. 'Hollander has shown that leaders can get away with a great deal once they establish the perception that they are committed to group interests and have the ability to achieve group ends.'"
