The Visible Scholar: Dr. Edward L. Ayers

Taking place in an open venue in Boatwright Library, "The Visible Scholar" series provides a space for informal faculty talks on new publications. On Monday, January 29, 12 noon – 12:45, Dr. Edward Ayers, President Emeritus and Professor of Humanities at the University of Richmond, will discuss his new book, The Thin Light of Freedom: The Civil War and Emancipation in the Heart of America. The book conveys the final years of the Civil War in the Great Valley between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains by focusing on average, resilient people trying to survive the devastation around them. The talk will take place on the first floor of Boatwright Library.
