Erik Craft: U.S. taking odd path on tariffs, immigration (Pilot Online)

I missed this year’s Fourth of July festivities because I was out of the country at an economics conference. But because I was in Vancouver on July 1, I witnessed the celebration of Canada’s 151st birthday. Better yet, my wife and I attended the ceremony at which her good friend from high school become a Canadian citizen after 25 years.

We in the United States have long taken pride in the opportunity we have provided to people of diverse backgrounds and the unity that we have formed out of such diversity. We share this value with Canada. At the citizenship ceremony sponsored by the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, 60 people officially become Canadians.
