SPCS celebrates faculty promotions & service awards at annual ceremony

January 11, 2019

Faculty in the School of Professional & Continuing Studies celebrated promotion announcements and service awards during the annual awards ceremony held during the spring faculty meeting on January 10, 2019.

Prior to celebrating the accomplishments of the School’s faculty, the meeting featured comments from Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs Tom Shields and Dean Jamelle Wilson, along with a presentation on Emergency Preparedness by Dave McCoy, Chief of Police and Associate Vice President of Public Safety at the University of Richmond.

Dean Wilson highlighted progress on the School’s degree program reviews, and Associate Dean Tom Shields introduced six new adjunct faculty members: Dr. Mark Constantine, Nonprofit Studies; Prof. Ryan Conway and Dr. Decardra Jackson, Education; Dr. Lisa Donovan, Partners in the Arts; Prof. Laura Poe, Information Systems; and Dr. Susan Wilkes, HR Management.

Kevin Butterfield, University Librarian and Chair of the Adjunct Faculty Advisory Committee (AFAC), brought welcome and greetings from AFAC, and Sarah Petty, C’19, brought greetings from the Student Government Association (SGA) and encouraged faculty to participate in SGA events, to encourage their students to get involved, and to share newsworthy information about students with Petty in order to ensure coverage of nontraditional students in SPCS by the University’s newspaper, The Collegian.

Shields and Wilson presided over the announcement of service awards, followed by Butterfield, Shields and Wilson announcing winners of the SPCS Innovations in Teaching Award. The winners, a teaching team composed of Dr. Drew Baker and Prof. Ryan Conway, were unable to attend the ceremony; in their stead, Dr. Laura Kuti, Assistant Chair of Teacher Education, read a statement written by the winners accepting the award.

The annual awards ceremony is traditionally held during the spring faculty meeting. Promotions along with service awards in five-year increments are announced and celebrated during the ceremony. Promotions and awards are listed below.
