University hires Cynthia Price as director of media and public relations

The University of Richmond has hired Cynthia Price as director of media and public relations, effective April 14.

Formerly director of communications at ChildFund International, Price will be responsible for working with local, regional and national media to promote the university, its faculty and programs. She also will be responsible for crisis communications and will serve as university spokesperson.

At ChildFund, Price had global responsibility for all aspects of communications, including media and public relations, reputation management, policy development and a rebranding program that included the organization’s name change. She previously was public affairs manager for the Richmond Police Department, where she directed a team that provided comprehensive communications and marketing expertise throughout the department, including media relations, crisis communications, employee communications and event planning.

She has been an adjunct faculty member at VCU, executive editor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and a staff writer and news editor for Rockingham Publishing Company.

Price has served as president of both Virginia Press Women and the National Federation of Press Women and was named Communicator of Achievement by both organizations. She consistently wins awards for her work from VPW and NFPW.

Price holds a B.A. in English from Radford University and completed graduate courses at the University of Richmond.
